BIG MATCH PREVIEW: STOCKPORT

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010
Wanderers head north to Stockport this weekend looking to continue their recent resurgence and edge closer to safety.

Five points from the last three outings have boosted the Blues' survival hopes, and they will be looking to put considerable distance between themselves and the Hatters, who lie eight points adrift at the foot of League One.

And striker Alex Revell acknowledges the importance of the clash in Cheshire.

"We know what a big game it is and we know what we've got to do," he told Chairboys Player.

"If we can carry on doing what we have been doing in the last three games, and go there with the mentality that we've got to work harder than them, then we will get our rewards."

County, who have won just one of their last 20 matches, were left reeling from the 4-1 defeat at Swindon Town on Tuesday, prompting boss Gary Ablett to lock his team inside the changing room for an hour after the final whistle.

However, they will have happy memories of previous encounters with Wycombe, winning 6-0 in November 2007 and defeating Paul Lambert's men en route to the Wembley in the play-offs in the same season.

But in more recent times, Wycombe have emerged as the victors, beating Stockport 2-1 at Adams Park in December, and they will be looking to make it a third double of the season in the space of just a month at Edgeley Park.

Wanderers will be playing in their all yellow change strip for the match, to avoid a colour clash with the Hatters' all blue kit.

Stay tuned to wwfc.com on Saturday morning for the outcome of the pitch inspection, which is scheduled to take place at 10am.

Opposition View

"To say it's a big game is an understatement. We've got to win that football match - it doesn't matter how we do it. It's a big match and we need to win. We owe them one because we didn't show up at their place. We've got to be as one and get three points."

County skipper Johnny Mullins, talking to Stockport's official website.

Team News

Wycombe:
Matt Harrold has recovered from illness to return to the travelling squad but Gareth Ainsworth misses out, as he serves the second of his three-match suspension.

Adam Hinshelwood and Matt Bloomfield will be in the squad once again after his return from injury, but manager Gary Waddock is likely to start with the same XI that drew 0-0 with Southampton on Tuesday.

Stockport: Manager Gary Ablett may be tempted to make changes after his side's capitulation in the 4-1 defeat to Swindon on Tuesday night. Former Wanderers loanee Ablett was dealt a blow on Friday with the news that Danny Pilkington has been ruled out for up to eight weeks.

Long-term absentees Gianluca Havern and Matty Mainwaring are still missing for County.
