KEV: WE CAN BULLY LIONS

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

Blues midfielder Kevin McLeod is confident that the Chairboys can outplay Millwall at Adams Park on Saturday, if they repeat last weekend's 'bullying' performance at Brentford.

The former Everton player - who crowned an impressive debut against the Bees with the assist for Kevin Betsy's goal - says that after dominating the game at Griffin Park against an in-form side, he and his teammates are even more determined to come away with three points on home turf:

"Everyone goes on about Brentford, the way they break teams down and all that; they didn't even bother us on Saturday - we've bullied them, played them off the park," he told Chairboys Player.

"If we can take that into the Millwall game, see what they can do and obviously if we play how we can do, I think we can beat them."

Despite the inevitable pressure for results that comes from having back-to-back home games - with Southampton following Kenny Jackett's side to Adams Park on Tuesday night - McLeod insists that Wanderers have not been dragged into setting a specific points target for the upcoming double-header.

Yet the 29-year-old's ambition is still plain to see, and he believes that although the Blues only came away with a draw against Brentford in a match they deserved to win, victory Saturday against a team currently sixth in the table could be just the catalyst they need to push towards safety.

"We've got six points to get out of the relegation battle; in my eyes, looking at the game against Brentford, we've been unfortunate with not getting all three points - fair enough.

"We'll just take it [the performance] to our home against Millwall - on our patch - take three points there and then get another three and get out of the relegation battle."

McLeod's positive outlook on survival may well have something to do with being part of a Brighton side that last year pulled off their own great escape, winning five of their last seven games to stay up on the final day of the season.

Having been so close to the brink and survived, the midfielder knows exactly what it takes to stay in League One, and believes that the Chairboys have just the right qualities.

"What really encourages me is from when I first came in, the lads were great; the way they play football, the way they work hard for each other and everything else," he said.

"I was at Brighton last year and they got out of the relegation battle by the skin of their teeth, and this [Wycombe] is a miles better team."
