GARY DELIGHTED WITH RESPONSE

Posted on: Sun 14 Feb 2010
Blues chief Gary Waddock told the press that he was impressed with his side's character in the 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday - a performance which he felt was "a million miles" from the abject display against Yeovil last week.

Prior to the game, the 'gaffer' had challenged his players to earn their places in the team following the 4-1 defeat at Adams Park, and they reacted positively in the local derby which saw Kevin Betsy and Myles Weston find the net.

"The performance was a committed one and I was very pleased with that," said Waddock. "We got a response today - it just shows that they have it in their locker - but we have to do it on a regular basis.

"We had done well up until the Yeovil game, which was a really flat performance from us, but today wasn't. The two are a million miles apart. It hurts us when things aren't going our way and it hurt me and the players all week.

"We had an opportunity to put it right today and, to be fair to the players, we did," he added.

Such was Wycombe's dominance in the first 45 minutes that there was a slight feeling of disappointment not to have taken all three points from the West London clash, but Waddock feels that the point gained could prove to be crucial at the end of the season as they battle relegation:

"We would have liked to have gone away with three points but you can never underestimate the value of a point," he said. "I thought we created quite a few chances and we've paid the price for not taking them. I know how difficult it is to come here, so a point is a good point."

"Today showed that the players care. We've got 15 games left and if we show that desire, we've got more than a chance. It's not over, not by a long way.

"We have to show that form and commitment week in, week out. And if we do, we won't be in the position we are in - we will move forward," he declared.

Coming soon: Kevin Betsy reflects on his goalscoring performance, Tom Heaton reveals his delight at moving to Adams Park and Gary Waddock gives his verdict on the debut displays of Heaton and midfielder Kevin McLeod.
