EXTRA INCENTIVE FOR MOUSINHO

Posted on: Sat 13 Feb 2010
Midfielder John Mousinho admits that he will have additional motivation on Saturday, when the Blues take on his former side Brentford in a crunch game at Griffin Park.

Since joining Wycombe from the Bees in June 2008, the 23-year-old has yet to lose against the club where he began his career, and after a 1-0 win against them at Adams Park back in November, 'Mous' confesses he is even more up for it this time around.

"I'm really looking forward to it; it'll be the second time I've gone back since I left and it's always good to go back to your old club - I enjoyed it when we beat them earlier in the season," he told Chairboys Player.

"I know it's a cliché but it's just another game, however, there's always an extra incentive when you play against your old club."

Despite having a fine record against his old team, Mousinho knows that this weekend's game will be very tough indeed, especially after Brentford's last home game resulted in a 4-0 win over Gillingham.

But with both sides desperate for three points for very different reasons, the midfielder states he is not fazed by the challenge ahead.

"They are a good team at home and it's a difficult place to go," he said.

"They'll be wanting revenge for that game [the 1-0 loss in November] but we're thinking it's a must win game for us to help get us out of trouble. We've both got plenty of incentives to win the game."

With the Blues currently six points from safety, the trip to Griffin Park naturally takes on more significance for Gary Waddock's men.

Yet having already produced some big away wins against this season - against Millwall and more recently, Bristol Rovers - Mousinho believes that the Chairboys can do it again in West London, as they attempt to start a run that will put pressure on the sides above.

He said: "It can't be all doom and gloom because the six points is definitely a gap we can close; it's just a case of putting a string of performances together.

"We've done it in patches this season but we've never really put a consistent run of games together and that's what would enable us to get out of trouble.

"If we show up with the right attitude on Saturday then there is no reason why it can't be another big game away."
