Gary Waddock says his side need to be "more ruthless in both boxes" if they are to pull themselves away from the relegation zone.
Waddock's comments came after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Southend, where the Blues squandered a number of good opportunities to take all three points back to Buckinghamshire.
"I don't know what you've got to do to win a football match at the moment!" said the Blues boss. "We created enough chances for an away side to win two games and I feel that it's two points dropped.
"A lot of them were good chances as well. We give the players a licence to play and they play with a freedom now. That showed in the display and the chances we created, but we have to be more ruthless.
"They had opportunities as well but ours were more clear cut. If a chance crops up and you miss it, make sure you hit the back of the net next time.
"We've got to be more ruthless in both boxes. I'm disappointed again for the players."
Alan McCormack's header handed the hosts the lead on the hour mark but West Ham loanee Josh Payne's stunning 25-yard equaliser saw the Blues leave Roots Hall with the least they deserved.
Waddock said: "It was a fantastic strike on his debut and I'm pleased for him. I said to him afterwards that he's got to get used to the pace of the game because this league is different to where he has been. He made one or two mistakes but he rounded off his debut quite well with that lovely strike."
The 47-year-old also passed judgement on the display of his other debutant Dean Keates, who arrived at Adams Park on a free transfer on Thursday:
"He did OK, but he needs to get more games under his belt to get that sharpness back. But you can tell that he is a good footballer and he's got that experience as well which is what we've needed. He'll improve as he goes along but I was pleased with his performance."
Wanderers looked the more likely side to snatch the victory after Payne's equaliser and Waddock felt the Blues' display warranted all three points.
He said: "We have to win games, simple as that. I'd rather go and try and win a football match than just be content with a point. A point is good and we can't underestimate that but we have to pick up three. We should have got the three points today."
Waddock is hoping that in-form striker Jon-Paul Pittman will be back for the trip to Bristol Rovers next Saturday, after the Wanderers' no.16 missed the clash with the Shrimpers with a groin injury.
He said: "He's on fire at the moment and I've been pleased with the way he's been performing. But he wasn't here today, so you have to rely on the lads up top to put the ball in the back of the net - it didn't happen today.
"He picked up a groin problem on Thursday, funnily enough when he was finishing a chance which hit the back of the net. Hopefully he'll be back for next Saturday."
