YOUNG LEAVES THE BLUES

Posted on: Thu 21 Jan 2010
Jamie Young has left the club by mutual consent, wwfc.com can reveal.

The popular Australian goalkeeper made 39 appearances during a four-year stint at Adams Park after joining from Berkshire neighbours Reading in August 2006.

'Youngy' will be remembered by the Chairboys fans for his integral role in the club's run to the Carling Cup semi-final run in 2006-07 and his seven clean sheets on the way to the Blues' promotion in 2008-09.

Blues boss Gary Waddock said: "I wanted to tell him early on that he wasn't going to be given a new contract because I've got a lot of respect for him. He's a good guy and I wish him all the best for the future."

Speaking to wwfc.com, Young said: "I really enjoyed my time at the club. It's been frustrating at times because I personally feel that I could have played a lot more games, but I've had some great times with Wycombe.

"I've definitely grown in experience and I would like to say 'thank you' to everyone at Wycombe, especially the supporters behind the goal. I don't think I'll have a similar relationship with another set of supporters as I have here.

"It was a great experience for me as a person and as a footballer."

Young also praised the Blues for the way they handled his departure from Adams Park.

He said: "I can only say positive things about Wycombe, especially the way they have dealt with me. The manager (Gary Waddock) treated me really well through the entire process."

The Brisbane born keeper's final word was saved for his goalkeeping coach Martin Brennan, who Youngy is predicting to go on and do big things in the game.

He commented: "He is a tremendous coach, especially for someone so young. The club need to keep him because he is very good."
