ADAM'S UP FOR THE FIGHT

Posted on: Mon 04 Jan 2010

Adam Hinshelwood made his debut for the Wanderers in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Norwich City, and then declared that he's desperate to help keep the club win the fight for League One survival.

The defender joined the Blues from Aldershot just 24 hours before the visit of the high-flying Canaries, and after enjoying his first taste of football in the quarters, Hinshelwood explained that it's matches such as these which will inspire him and his team-mates to stay in the division:

"Aldershot were great to me but here I have an opportunity to play in a higher division, and when you look at some of the fixtures coming up and see what a big league it is, that's the incentive to stay in it.

"The move happened quite quickly and as soon as I had a call from the gaffer, I jumped at the chance. It was tough to leave Aldershot because they're in a good position and I was club captain, but I've settled in well with the lads here and I'm looking forward to it."

Hinshelwood was signed by current Blues boss Gary Waddock at the start of the campaign when the pair worked together at Aldershot, and the 25-year-old had no hesitation in following Waddock and his assistant Martin Kuhl to Adams Park:

"The chance to work with the gaffer and Martin again was a massive incentive for me," he said. "I'd say they're the best I've ever played under and I can't speak highly enough of them."

The former Brighton defender lasted an hour of the clash with Paul Lambert's side and although Wanderers slipped to a third successive defeat, Hinshelwood knows what is required to turn the club's fortunes around in the second half of the season:

"We have to be positive, roll our sleeves up and treat every game like a cup final - our incentive is to stay in this league," he said. "I was in a scrap last year with Brighton and you can't come off the pitch feeling sorry for yourselves - we've lost the game, we didn't get any points and you need points to stay up.

"As a defender it hurts to concede goals and we're looking for clean sheets. We'll be positive, we'll all stick together, pull in the same direction and hopefully things will go our way."
