KEV: "MATT CAN GO FAR"
Posted on: Thu 17 Dec 2009
Wanderers star Kevin Betsy reckons fellow winger Matt Phillips has what it takes to become a huge success in the game following a string of fine performances from the 18-year-old.
The pair have recently teamed up on opposite flanks to provide the ammunition for the Wanderers strikeforce, and Phillips in particular caught the eye with a fine display in the 2-1 win over Stockport County, earning praise from his team-mate:
"He can go all the way - as far as he wants to go," said Betsy. "He's a fantastic prospect, he can use both feet and he can play on both flanks. I wish I was as good as him when I was his age because I truly believe he's an outstanding talent."
Phillips progressed through the youth system at the club and made his first-team debut in 2008 before becoming a regular in Peter Taylor's side the following year. And Betsy feels that the education given to the youngster throughout his apprenticeship has stood him in fine stead:
"The club has done a fantastic job in the academy to bring him through, not just in terms of his footballing ability but also his attitude and professionalism off the pitch. He's a lovely lad," added Betsy.
