WADDOCK: TIME FOR A BREATHER
Posted on: Fri 27 Nov 2009
Wanderers boss Gary Waddock says his players will not be asked to report to training over the weekend in the absence of a first-team fixture, and believes it is an opportunity for his squad to recover after a busy few weeks.
The FA Cup first round exit at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion leaves the Blues without a game this weekend whilst the second round of the competition takes place, and Waddock hopes that the mini-break will leave his men in good shape ahead of a hectic December period:
"The players will have the weekend off," he told wwfc.com. "They've done well recently and we have a number of important games coming up, so I want them nice and fresh and raring to go.
"Christmas is busy and if you give the lads a breather, sometimes that can be as helpful or as beneficial as training. We've had a few tough games recently so we've rewarded them with a couple of days off."
But whilst the players might be enjoying a weekend off after back-to-back victories over Millwall and Brentford, it's business as usual for Waddock who will be taking the opportunity to scout upcoming opponents:
"What break?! Kuhly (assistant manager Martin Kuhl) and I will be going to games over the weekend. We have our break at the end of the season - it's part and parcel of the job and I wouldn't change it."
