MOUSINHO: MOMENTUM IS KEY

Posted on: Wed 02 Dec 2009

Blues midfielder John Mousinho says he and his team-mates must continue their recent strong run of form when they travel to Southampton on Tuesday night (k.o. 7.45pm) as the Wanderers kick off a crucial December period.

Back-to-back victories over Millwall and Brentford have lifted the mood around Adams Park after the 6-0 drubbing at Huddersfield a fortnight ago, and Mousinho is aware of the importance of keeping the points tally ticking over:

"It was a real relief to get the win against Brentford because we knew after we beat Millwall that we had to kick on," he said. "It would have been useless winning there and then losing against Brentford - you have to keep the momentum going and keep building confidence.

"It's important to beat the teams around you in the league - obviously it was great to beat Millwall but it was even better to beat Brentford, and Southampton will be another big game for us," he added.

Mousinho was an unused sub in the defeat to Huddersfield but has returned to the starting line-up since then and feels that the setback may have spurred on not only the players, but also the Wanderers supporters:

"Barring the Huddersfield game we've been pretty good since the new manager's come in so maybe that game was a blessing in disguise. It really did give us a kick up the backside and now we need to kick on again.

"The fans have been great and I think they really appreciated the performance at Millwall because the away fans there were unbelievable. You wouldn't have blamed them after Huddersfield if they'd packed their bags and not bothered, but they've stuck with us and hopefully we've repaid them with a couple of good performances."

Tuesday's trip gives the Amersham-born midfielder a chance to impress against one of the division's biggest clubs as the Blues go head to head with former Premiership outfit Southampton, and Mousinho is delighted to be back in the light and dark blue quarters alongside Tommy Doherty in the centre of the park:

"Doc's really easy to play with because he gets on the ball, he keeps working and he keeps talking to you, and I think that in the last couple of games we've been quite comfortable.

"I'm really happy to get a chance to be playing anywhere and luckily it's coincided with a good run of form. It's a great feeling to be back playing for the team," he added.
