BLUES NAME NEW BOSS
Wanderers have announced the appointment of Gary Waddock as the club's new manager and he will take charge of the team for Saturday's home game against Colchester United.
Gary and his assistant Martin Kuhl join us from League Two Aldershot Town who ended Wycombe's 18-game unbeaten run at the start of last season.
Born in London, Gary had an outstanding playing career making over 500 appearances for six clubs and winning 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland. He is best known for his time at Queens Park Rangers, where he played over 200 games.
He left Rangers to join the Belgian club Charleroi before returning to England to play for Millwall, Bristol Rovers and Luton Town and also had a loan spell at Swindon Town.
When his playing career came to an end, Gary took up coaching and went on to oversee the youth academy at his former club QPR, where he was also in charge of the reserve team.
In February 2006, Gary was asked to become caretaker boss of Rangers' first team when they looked in danger of being relegated from the Championship and was given the manager's job on a full time basis after steering them to safety.
The following season, QPR appointed former Wycombe boss John Gregory as their manager, but Gary was asked to stay on at Loftus Road as his assistant and first team coach.
Gary left Rangers to become manager of Aldershot Town in May 2007, and he guided them to promotion to the Football League from the Blue Square Premier League in his first season in charge. They finished 15th in League Two last season.
Gary's assistant Martin Kuhl made over 400 appearances in the Football League for six different clubs including Birmingham City and Portsmouth, where he once played in an F.A. Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
At 'The Shots', Gary and Martin produced teams that played entertaining, attacking football. They won promotion to the Football League setting a Conference record of 31 wins from 46 games and won the title with 101 points, 15 points ahead of runners up Cambridge United.
Aldershot scored over 80 goals in their promotion season and in their first season back in the F.L. they scored more goals than Wanderers even though they finished 12 places lower in the table.
