TAYLOR: I'M UP FOR THE TEST

Posted on: Mon 05 Oct 2009
Peter Taylor has spoken of his determination to guide the Blues away from the League One relegation zone.

The Blues boss was speaking after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient at Adams Park, where he revealed he is relishing the challenge of turning around a disappointing start to the season.

Taylor said: "I'm not enjoying our results at the minute but I am enjoying the week in the lead up to the game and trying to improve us. I think slowly but surely we are improving.

"The players and I have got to stay positive - it's a test but one I'm up for. If the players win a game the spirit will be lifted immediately. We've just got to keep that determination and togetherness within the squad.

"The players have got to be honest with each other and we've got to be honest with them. Having said that, there is no point in the team being terrific in training because we also need them to be terrific on a match day.

"You can encourage all you like during the week but next Saturday against Gillingham is when I want to see a performance."

Scott McGleish's 77th minute header was enough to separate the sides at Adams Park and despite voicing his disappointment about the way the goal was conceded, Taylor was again encouraged by parts of the Chairboys' performance.

He said: "I'm disappointed he scored, I'm disappointed any Orient player scored simply because we allowed him to get across one of our defenders. That's what all good attackers do but our defenders have got to be ready for that. It was a very poor goal for us and I thought we were miles to deep."

Taylor went on: "Our performance wasn't as good as Tuesday against Tranmere but we still did some good things. We've put in some good performances recently but we just haven't scored.

"Orient looked more dangerous after they scored, but before that we deserved to win the match. We did create some chances and we know we're not that far away in that respect."
