SHEARS: 'IT'S JUST A NORMAL GAME'

Posted on: Sat 19 Sep 2009
Blues goalkeeper Scott Shearer is fully convinced Wanderers are close to eradicating the errors that have already cost them dearly this season, starting with a first shut out of the season against local rivals MK Dons on Saturday.

Peter Taylor's troops were ten minutes away from what would have been a first clean sheet against Hartlepool, but a brief lapse of concentration from a set-piece ultimately led to an equaliser and cost the Wanderers two points.

However, the big Scot insists the players are now collectively more conscious of their defensive duties and are fully prepared for Paul Ince's side on Saturday afternoon.

Reflecting on Hartlepool, 'Shears' insists morale in the camp is still high despite the disappointment of that late equaliser at Victoria Park.

Shearer told wwfc.com: "We were really disappointed with the draw as we felt we deserved a lot more. Mistakes have cost us again, but we're having a really positive week in training and everyone is looking really sharp."

Regardless of the opposition Scott insists the team will not change their approach and are preparing for the visit of MK like they would any other.

He said: "At the end of the day it's just a normal game for us, we're just going to go out there and do are own thing and not worry about the opposition."

With MK possessing a strong attacking threat through the likes of Jermaine Easter and Jason Puncheon, Shears shared his thoughts on the possibility of a shut out:
"I wouldn't mind one to be honest! However, the three points is the most important thing and that's what we're all aiming for."

And on the Blues survival chances this season, Scott is more than confident the team will become a force despite a tough start to life in League One.

He said: "I think we've proven we are good enough to be in this division. The difference from this division to the last one is that we were getting away with a lot more things and now we're getting punished a lot more. We just need to eradicate those mistakes and then we can move on.

"I think if we try and make this place [Adams Park] a fortress for the rest of the season and try and nick as many points away from home as we can, we'll be okay."
