BEVS: 'GREAT TO BE OFF THE MARK'

Posted on: Tue 15 Sep 2009
After coming in for some much deserved praise from Blues boss Peter Taylor, forward Stuart Beavon has voiced his own delight at scoring his first league goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with Hartlepool on Saturday.

Beavon handed the Blues the lead with a smartly taken finish early in the second half but slack defending from a Pools free kick allowed Adam Boyd to steal a point for the home side in the 79th minute at Victoria Park.

Speaking to wwfc.com, he said:"
It's very disappointing as I thought we were the better team. We started off a bit slow but towards the end of the first half and definitely in the second half we were the much better team."

Injury troubles have restricted the former Weymouth man to only a handful of appearances for the Chairboys, but with a full pre-season under his belt and a recent return to full fitness following a calf injury the Wanderers' no.24 has his sights now set on a permanent spot in Peter Taylor's starting XI.

He said: "This is the first time I've had injuries which have stopped me from moving around and it can be frustrating when you can't get in the team. I've had a good pre-season and scored a couple of goals and now feeling fitter then ever. I'm really enjoying it."

Reflecting on his first goal for the Blues at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon, the 25-year-old said: "I could see the gap open up just behind the midfield and in front of the back four. There was about five yards to run into and I just hit it. I didn't catch it as well as I would have liked but luckily it hit the inside of the post and went in."
