TAYLOR: 'HE'S A CLEVER PLAYER'
Wanderers boss Peter Taylor has promised to take both positive and negatives from Saturday's draw with Hartlepool, after Adam Boyd's second half strike snatched victory away from the Blues.
Stuart Beavon gave the visiting side a well-earned lead shortly after the break, and the former Weymouth man's performance was singled out for praise by the ex-England boss.
"It was a great goal, I thought he (Beavon) did some very good things," Taylor told the post match press conference.
"He's a clever player, he's in a position where he wants to go towards the ball, which takes him into midfield and means he has to work a lot harder but he's very capable; tough, brave and good in the air. He can score goals so he can get better."
Only some tired looking defending from Neil Austin's second half free-kick spoiled a beautiful day on the North East coast, and the Blues boss admitted that his side knew exactly what went wrong.
"I asked the players where they thought they were going wrong this season, and they all came back with 'we've conceded too many poor goals'.
The performance on Saturday was good but we've let in another very bad goal, I'm amazed that we're not more alert for set - pieces. People switch off, it was a very hot day and players worked exceptionally hard - when your legs get tired your brain gets tired, so it may well be that."
With the Chairboys showing flashes of attacking class in their opening fixtures it seems that only a few tweaks are needed to get things right - a view shared by the club's management staff.
"Players are looking good in patches, there are opportunities there to be grabbed and Stuart Beavon absolutely did that today."
