Gary Holt has revealed his desire to continue playing is as strong as ever as he begins his search for a new club.

The former Scottish international had his contract terminated by mutual consent on Wednesday, following a meeting with Wanderers chief Peter Taylor.

Talking in an exclusive interview with wwfc.com, Holt said: "My job is to now find another club and I'm looking forward to playing football next season.

"I will probably stay in England but you never know in football. I'll take it as it comes and I do want to get into coaching at some stage."

Paul Lambert signed the midfielder on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest in July 2007 and Holt enjoyed a good first season with the Blues, as the club reached the League Two play-offs.

But following the defeat to Stockport at the semi-final stage and the resignation of Lambert, Holt spoke out in the Bucks Free Press - something that he thinks could have been handled better on reflection.

He said: "It was well documented what happened after Paul Lambert left the club last summer and I regret most of what I said.

"But I feel like I have proved my worth to the side over the past season and done my talking on the pitch.

"I've always had a good rapport with supporters at all the clubs I've been at in my career. It took a while for the fans at Wycombe to warm to me because of my comments but I hope they can appreciate the fact I always gave my all on the pitch."

Holt once again excelled last season alongside Tommy Doherty in the centre of midfield and even though the 36-year-old isn't known for his goalscoring exploits, he collected the club's 'Goal of the Year' award for his wonder strike in the 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury in March.

And despite a lapse in the Wanderers' form towards the end of the season, Holt's experience proved pivotal as the club achieved automatic promotion on the final day against Notts County - something he regards as one of his finest achievements in his career.

"I had two great years at the club and to be apart of a promotion-winning side was a great way to finish," Holt said.
