Gary Holt has left the club after having his contract terminated by mutual consent, wwfc.com can reveal.

Holt becomes a free agent after making over 70 appearances in a two-year stint with the Wanderers.

The former Scottish international signed a one-year contract extension in February, but after a recent meeting with Blues boss Peter Taylor it was decided that it would be in the best interest of both parties to go their separate ways.

Speaking exclusively to wwfc.com, Holt said: "I'm gutted, but things come to an end. I've had two great years here and ever since day one I've enjoyed playing for the club.

"I would like to thank Peter (Taylor) for being honest and rather than me playing fewer games next season it's better if I move on and look for another club."

Blues boss Peter Taylor told wwfc.com: "Since I've been at the club Gary has been a very good professional and because of that we were able to talk honestly about the prospect of how many games he would play.

"I couldn't guarantee him first team football every week and we felt it would be best if he found a club elsewhere.

"I can't thank him enough for the way he has conducted himself both on and off the pitch and he will be a great signing for someone."
