INTRODUCING...SOUTHEND UNITED

The Shrimpers are a club with ever growing connections with the Wanderers.
Whilst players such as Leon Johnson, Matt Harrold and Lewis Hunt have all played for the Essex boys, Blues boss Peter Taylor had spells at Roots Hall as both a player and a manager.
Recent years have been nothing if not eventful for United. In 1999 the club were just five places off the bottom of the Football League and in serious financial strife, but the arrival of current chief Steve Tilson in 2002 was to reinvigorate the club.
They reached two LDV Vans Trophy finals before securing promotion via the play-offs in 2005, defeating Lincoln City at the Millennium Stadium.
This was followed by promotion to the the Championship in 2006, as the Shrimpers became League One champions with a 2-2 draw with Swansea City.
Regrettably relegation was to follow and United found themselves playing League One football again in the 2007/08 season, where they failed to bounce back at the first attempt after a play-off semi-final defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
Last season also ended in slight frustration, as an eighth place finish saw Tilson's side finish five points away from the top six.
Fans expectation will be heightened by the club's plans to move into a new 22,000 seater stadium at the beginning of the 2010/2011 campaign.
