Peter Taylor has made his first signing of the summer with the capture of Lewis Montrose from Premier League side Wigan Athletic, wwfc.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old will officially join the club on 1st July on a two-year deal, following the expiration of his contract at the Latics.

Montrose began his career at the Lancashire club and made his debut, as a substitute, in the Carling Cup tie with Crewe in October 2006, before enjoying loan spells at Rochdale, Cheltenham Town and Chesterfield.

The midfielder ended the previous campaign with the latter of the three and played in the Spireites' 1-1 draw with the Wanderers at Adams Park in March.

Blues boss Peter Taylor told wwfc.com: "I've kept tabs on Lewis ever since we played against Chesterfield last season. I've also spoken to a few people I know at Wigan and that's why I have followed up my interest.

"I'm delighted to sign a young player and I hope with some games and experience he will kick on."
