LJ: 'THERE'S LIFE AFTER CRACKS'

Posted on: Wed 24 Jun 2009

By Ross Jeavons

Wanderers defensive stalwart Leon Johnson has promised fans that the Blues back line will stay strong, despite the departure of captain David McCracken.

'LJ', who was voted as the 'Supporters Player of the Year' in his first season at the club, was speaking after the Chairboys skipper agreed a two-year deal with League One rivals MK Dons.

The Wanderers backline was one of the meanest in the country during the 2008/2009 campaign - racking up a record breaking 21 clean sheets as Peter Taylor's men sealed promotion.

"Cracks will be a big loss, he's a good player and I struck up a great partnership with him, so he'll be missed," conceded Johnson.

"Despite that we still have some very good players here. Woody and Lewis Hunt played a massive part last year and Luke Oliver is a very decent centre half. I'm sure the manager will look to strengthen too so we'll be fine. We can replicate our form from last year."

Events off the field have been taking centre stage at Adams Park over the last fortnight, but Leon is sure that his team-mates will only be focussing on football matters over the coming weeks.

"I don't really focus on the ins and outs of what's going on, the lads can't effect it they just have to hope it gets sorted and that we can move on," he said.

"I can't speak for everyone but it's completely separate to what goes on the pitch, so we just have to get ready for the new season."
