Following on from our look at Hartlepool United, we now turn to the west to preview Huddersfield Town.

After being tipped for promotion at the beginning of last season, the Terriers got off to a disastrous start under the guidance of Stan Ternent. The former Burnley boss left after only six months in charge, the shortest reign of any manager in the club's 100-year history.

Gerry Murphy was installed as caretaker manager of the Terriers and he couldn't have faced a harder first match when Huddersfield faced an away trip to Elland Road. However, Murphy and the Terriers collected a brilliant 2-1 victory over Leeds, a result which sparked a recovery at the McApline Stadium.

Murphy's third stint as Terriers boss came to an end in mid December though when former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark was handed the reins. And it looked to be a great appointment after Clark began with eight wins from his first nine games.

The run included a 1-0 victory over rivals Leeds United and Clark had established Huddersfield as one of the league's chasing pack for the play-offs. However, inconsistent form saw the Terriers' challenge fall by the wayside and they finished in ninth place.

Next year Lee Clark will be looking to live up to Huddersfield's expectations and achieve promotion to the Championship.
