How football can change. In December 2006 the Blues were preparing for a Carling Cup tie with Premiership side Charlton Athletic and now three seasons on the pair are set to head-to-head in League One.
Matt Bloomfield was one of the Wanderers players that was involved in the 1-0 win at the Valley on that December night in London and 'Blooms' is relishing the challenge of going up against the Addicks and other top clubs next season.
He told wwfc.com: "There are some big teams in League One. We played some of the sides we will play next season in previous cup runs and it's going to be good to go their in the league."
The former Ipswich Town man believes that confidence is the key next season as the Blues try and stamp their authority on the third tier of English football.
The 25-year-old said: "We have to believe in ourselves and have confidence in our own ability that we can compete. There is no point in playing in football if you don't have confidence in yourself. The lads and I have confidence in our ability.
"If would be good if we could get off a decent start as well. It's a long season and things can change like it did last campaign but we must attack each game on merit and we're all relishing the season ahead."
But before Blooms and co can start thinking about the League One opener on 8th August, they will come up against Championship pair Bristol City and QPR as part of the club's pre-season schedule.
He said: "We've got a good pre-season. It doesn't take too long before your missing football again. We've all had a couple of weeks off now and we're all looking forward to getting back."
