TAYLOR: 'GILLS GAME IS HUGE'

Posted on: Thu 09 Apr 2009

By Alan Parry

A weary but delighted Blues boss Peter Taylor climbed into bed at 4 a.m. this morning after the long trip home from Darlington and declared: 'Saturday's home game against my old club Gillingham is now absolutely huge.'

Chris Zebroski's stoppage time winner in the north east saw Wanderers climb into second place in the League Two table just four points behind the leaders Brentford and still with a game-in-hand on most of our promotion rivals.

Said Taylor: 'It was such a relief to get a win because we were under a bit of pressure after recent results. The winning goal came very late but we deserved all three points and we had several chances to take the lead before Chris scored.'

Taylor took his players north on Saturday after arranging to use the training facilities at Premier League club Middlesbrough for a couple of days. He told wwfc.com: 'I would like to thank Steve Hayes and the board for agreeing to the extra cost of an extended stay before we played Darlington. It made a big difference.

'I felt that we needed a change of scenery and the chance to prepare properly and bond together as a squad. We spent a lot of time in training on set pieces and it was really pleasing that both our goals came from those situations.

'Financially, these are difficult times for all clubs and Wycombe are no exception, so the club really showed their commitment to winning promotion by footing the bill for our stay in the north east.'

The Blues now face two crucial games over the Easter weekend against promotion rivals Gillingham (H) and Exeter (A) and Taylor said: 'It would be great to get a big crowd at Adams Park on Saturday for the visit of my old club Gillingham. It's a massive game for them as well so it has all the makings of a classic.'

Wanderers are set to announce an exciting ticket offer ahead of Saturday's game, keep it wwfc.com for more.
