'WE'RE DESPERATE TO DO WELL'

Peter Taylor has assured Wanderers fans that his side will do all they can between now and the end of the season to achieve promotion to League One.

The Blues remain in second spot in League Two despite the midweek 1-0 defeat to Lincoln and Taylor is confident his side will bounce back and finish the campaign strongly following what he's calling a 'sticky spell'.

He said: "The boys are desperate to do well, as am I, and we're desperate to have a good end to the season.

"Other teams are winning at the moment while we're not and it's getting a bit of a nervous time for us but we've got to get on with it."

Wanderers were unfortunate not to come away with anything from Sincil Bank, having created numerous chances and offered the more attacking threat of the two sides but Taylor knows it's what happens in front of goal that counts.

He said: "We did play some nice football and it was only the final third that was a bit frustrating.

"We needed a bit of real quality. We had some chances but they got blocks in and in the end it just didn't go for us. We didn't score and that was frustrating. Lots of things we did before that were good but the final thing wasn't quite there.

"I'm OK with the general play, I was just disappointed with the silly times we gave the ball away in the second half."

The only goal of the game came in the opening minutes of the second half from the boot of Anthony Elding and the visitors should have never taken the lead according to the Wanderers chief.

He said: "The goal we conceded was a poor one and it should have been cut out. Chris Zebroski gave the ball away after it got stuck under his feet and if Cracks (David McCracken) wasn't struggling with a groin problem then I think he would have caught the winger.

"We went a goal down and I wanted to see some footballers. I did see some footballers but I also saw them lose the ball cheaply and that's were the boys need to be stronger."

McCracken did make way moments later with a sore groin for TJ Moncur and Taylor has admitted the skipper is a doubt for the weekend game at Griffin Park.

He said: "We gave it a try and it got worse at the start of the second half so we decided to bring him off. He is a doubt for Saturday's game."

Alongside the skipper in the back four was Will Antwi and Taylor felt the 6ft 3" centre-half did a good job after returning to the starting line-up.

He said: "I was pleased with Will, he was as good as anyone else in the back four. I decided to go with Will as Lincoln are a big side and I felt he would help us compete."

Along with his impressive defensive display Antwi ventured forward in search of an equaliser of the Blues, but it was Matty Phillips who had the best chance in the dying moments - a chance his manager thought he should have taken:

"It was a hell of a chance. He should have got the ball under the bar, if it had gone under the bar and was blocked then I could have lived with that, but for it to go over the bar was very frustrating."
