Goalscoring hero Jon-Paul Pittman appears to be his own biggest critic, after playing down any praise of his performance in the 2-0 victory over Chester City.

Despite setting up Matt Phillips for the evening's opener before securing the win with his second goal for the club, the ex-Crawley striker has told wwfc.com he still has plenty to work on.

"I didn't think my performance was terrific to be honest, I struggled to get involved at times but I was delighted to be involved with both of the goals," he said.

"It was a great finish by Matty (Phillips), he's a terrific prospect and I think the kid is wise beyond his years."

The game was an at times farcical affair thanks to atrocious weather conditions, with rain lashing down on Adams Park throughout the 90 minutes.

Yet again however, the striker that signed for the Blues in the January transfer window has shunned the opportunity to provide excuses.

"The conditions weren't great but we can't talk about that too much, at this level they're never going to be perfect so you just have to go out there and do a job," said Pittman.

Talk of a lack of goals in the Wanderers line up was rife in some sections of the media and even amongst the club support, but with an attacking side on show it would seem that Peter Taylor's men responded admirably.

"There was a bit of pressure from other sources and from within the camp itself to score goals, but to be fair that's because the lads are their own biggest critics," 'JP' admitted.

"I think we dealt with it well; we got a couple of goals and picked up the three points, which is the most important thing. "

Anyone who braved the stormy conditions would have been lucky enough to see an unusual goal celebration from the American forward, who gave an impromptu rock star performance to the corner flag after tucking away Chris Zebroski's knock down.

Although coy on the matter, it would seem that the intriguing display was a nod in the direction of one of his fatherland's greatest icons.

"Long live the king," smiled Pittman.

Don't give up the day job, 'JP'.
