'I THOUGHT I HAD MY FIRST'

Posted on: Tue 24 Feb 2009

By Ben Campbell

New boy Stuart Beavon thought he'd marked his debut with a goal in the 0-0 draw with Rotherham on Monday.

The capture from Weymouth had two chances to open his account after coming on a second half sub but unfortunately for Beavon and the Blues Andy Warrington in the Millers goal conspired against him to deny him his first Wycombe goal.

Talking exclusively to wwfc.com, Beavon said: "With the header I knew the keeper had it covered but I thought the shot which he tipped just round the corner was in."

The 24-year-old replaced Man of the Match Matt Phillips with just under 30 minutes left at Adams Park and although he revealed he would have liked more time to impress he was delighted to make his bow for the club.

He said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my debut. Obviously I would have liked a bit longer but at the end of the day I've come on and I thought I did ok.

"It was difficult to make an impact but I tried to do what I've been doing for Weymouth all season."

Like Peter Taylor, the new recruit was frustrated that the Blues couldn't snatch all three points but the striker opted to look on the positive after the game as the draw moved the Wanderers to within two points of top of the table Brentford, but with that crucial game in hand on their promotion rivals.

He said: "We need to take the positives out of the game, we haven't conceded and it's another clean sheet.

"We're creating chances and if you do that then it's only a matter of time before they start to go in."
