CHANT FOR THE CHAIRBOYS

Posted on: Mon 09 Feb 2009

This February the Football League Trust is lending its support to the Government's Get On campaign, which is launching a major competition to find the nation's best new football chant.

The Get On campaign aims to encourage the millions of adults in England who experience difficulties with English and maths, or who would benefit from brushing up on these skills, to enrol on free courses in their area by calling 0800 66 0800. The courses help adults get the basic skills they need to improve their lives both at home and at work.

The Football League Trust is fully behind this initiative, and we are exceptionally happy to support the programme. Football affects so many different people in so many different ways, and what better way to show your passion and commitment to your team than singing, and chanting positively?

To promote the campaign, Get On is drawing on the link between chants and language skills, and challenging football fans across the country to come up with a new football chant to impress the judges, football legend John Barnes and resident poet at Barnsley FC Ian McMillan, for the chance to win fantastic Football League ticket prizes.

The competition was launched on Saturday 7 February, and entrants can submit their chants either by post or online at the Get On website www.direct.gov.uk/geton until Friday 20 March.
