LEARN CENTRE SET FOR LAUNCH

Adams Park is set to unveil its state of the art 'Learn Centre' this evening, as part of an initiative that is the only of its kind in the county.

'The Matrix' Centre is packed full of state of the art computers and technology, and is naturally furnished with a tangible Wycombe Wanderers theme.

The initiative aims to use a sporting environment to motivate disengaged children, using the exciting setting of a football stadium to raise the standards of literacy, numeracy and ICT.

The scheme, aimed at 9-14 year olds, is set to be the only one of its kind in Buckinghamshire and one of the few run by a football club outside of the top flight.

The project cost £150,000, a third of which was fronted up by the club as part of their efforts to integrate with the local community.

It also received funding from the government and the Buckinghamshire County Council.

Julie Sadler, School Improvement Officer for Bucks County Council said; "We have had fantastic support for the Centre, most notably from Extended Services, Children and Families, Matrix and Network rail and are looking forward to making a real difference to young people. The room at Wycombe Wanderers is really inspiring."

Dave Evans, Community Scheme Manager at Wycombe Wanderers said; "We have a problem with integration in the local community, perhaps it is difficult for the Asian community to integrate properly at times or for disengaged children to find their way back to proper education.

Hopefully this scheme will branch out to everyone, we host adult learning too and also help disability groups so it really is a fantastic opportunity for everyone."
