Peter Taylor watched his Wanderers side move to the top of League Two on Saturday afternoon with a superb 1-0 victory at Rochdale and paid tribute to the work ethic of his players as they helped seal a record-breaking start to the new season.

The Blues have enjoyed their best ever opening to a Football League campaign, collecting 13 points from five games so far, and Taylor told wwfc.com after the game that he was delighted with the effort shown by his side at Spotland:

"I'm very pleased with that win," he said. "Rochdale is a very difficult place to come and get a result because they play good football, so you have to work hard as a team to get anything and I think we did that today.

"Everybody at the club is working hard from the coaching staff to the players and that's all you can ask of them. Scott McGleish worked his heart out today and that's why he came off but the good thing is that we had fresh legs to come on and replace him."

The result was the Blues' third successive 1-0 victory in League Two this season but the former England coach says he isn't overly concerned with how his side play as long as they perform well enough to collect all three points:

"We set our stall out and we've played against two good footballing teams in the last fortnight," he said. "Maybe we played a little deeper than normal but that's because we were playing against two strong teams, and if some people think we're boring then it doesn't really matter as long as we win."

Chris Zebroski became the club's sixth different player to find the net so far this season when he guided the ball home following Lewwis Spence's corner in the first half, and his manager was pleased with the manner in which the goal came about:

"I'm really pleased for Chris to score his first goal and I thought the number of yards he covered on the pitch today was outstanding. It's great if you can keep nicking goals from set pieces and we've got some people who are powerful in the air so they can knock the ball down like Mike Williamson did for Chris today."

But despite seeing his side rise to the League Two summit, Taylor refused to get even remotely carried away by the club's achievement so far and stressed that his only priority at the moment is focussing on the two forthcoming home matches against Brentford and Dagenham:

"My message to the players now will be to prepare the next games because they're two hard matches against teams who are doing well. It doesn't matter whether you're playing at home or away - you need to keep working hard if you want to be successful."
