Local boy John Mousinho has told wwfc.com that this evening's tie with Birmingham City is a great chance for the Blues to grab some glory early in the season.
The 22-year-old, who made his Wanderers debut by replacing Gary Holt at half time against Morecambe, says the side are raring to go in front of the Sky cameras on Wednesday night.
"The lads are really up for this one, Birmingham are tipped to win the Championship and obviously they're one of the best teams outside the top flight, so it's a massive game for us," he said.
"It's a home draw for us which means anything can happen, the cup's a fantastic opportunity for the club and the fans to grab a bit of money and more importantly a bit of glory."
Mousinho impressed many with a solid display against the Shrimps and he will be hoping to put himself in contention for a starting spot as Gary Holt faces a late fitness test.
"It's a double edged sword with Gary, hopefully he should make the game but obviously if not it's an opportunity for myself. I really enjoyed my first forty five on Saturday and hopefully I can pick up a few more over the season."
This time of year always churns up talk of the perceived importance of the Carling Cup, but the Amersham born Wanderer is sure that Wycombe's opponents will be taking things very seriously.
"The League Cup has got lots of stick in recent years but I think a lot of teams outside the top four in the country will put their full teams out, it's a chance to get a bit of silverware especially for a club like Birmingham. Both sides will be putting out a strong team tonight and I'm looking forward to it."
As Wanderers fans well know from previous cup exploits, penalties could be a real possibility and John has vowed not to back down should he be called upon to step up to the spot.
"We have been practicing and I would be happy to take one, though it's always different to taking one in training - especially with all the fans there and with the game being on Sky. I'm always ready to step up if needed though."
