'BLOOMS' LOOKING FOR OLD SPARK

Posted on: Tue 12 Aug 2008
By Ben Campbell

Matt Bloomfield is one of five players in the current Wanderers squad that were involved in the club's historic Carling Cup run in 2006/07 and the 24-year-old believes there's no reason why the club can't replicate that feat this time around.

'Blooms' exclusively told wwfc.com: "A couple of years ago no-one thought we would go as far as we did and we proved them wrong, and there is no reason why we can't do the same again this year.

"We beat Fulham and Charlton, who were both in the Premiership at the time, and after beating them we believed we could beat anyone."

Unfortunately the influential midfielder will miss the Birmingham game because of a long-term knee injury but the club's longest serving player will be in the Adams Park crowd willing the lads on.

'Blooms' said: "Of course we can win. It will be a tough game for the lads, Birmingham will probably get promotion back to the Premiership this season, but we can do it."

The other four Blues first teamers that played a part in that excellent run in the 2006/07 season include Jamie Young, Mike Williamson, Will Antwi and Tommy Doherty.

All four are set to be in the squad for tomorrow evening's game and to hear teammate John Mousinho's thoughts ahead of the fixture click here.
