Wanderers manager Peter Taylor has hailed the attitude of his players as "first class" after a successful first week of pre-season training, and added that preparation for their forthcoming friendly matches is going well ahead of the game with Flackwell Heath on Friday.

Taylor was one of eight new faces to the Booker training complex last week along with two coaches and five players who joined the Blues in the summer, and the ex-England coach is pleased with the progress of his squad:

"These first four days have been excellent," he told wwfc.com. "The attitude has been first class and what's pleased me most is the quality when we've played football. The atmosphere's really good, they're all working hard and there's no pressure of results so it should be an enjoyable month as we get everyone ready for the first match against Morecambe."

The 55-year-old appointed Junior Lewis and Damien Doyle to work alongside himself, Ian Culverhouse and Laurence Batty on the coaching staff in the summer, and the 'gaffer' believes that the new management team is working well together:

"I like to take some coaching sessions but it's important to let Ian, Junior and Damien do a lot so that I can step back and take a look at people. Laurence is working really hard with the keepers and they like what he gives them so it's gone very well."

Taylor will now be looking ahead to the friendly with Flackwell Heath on Friday evening (k.o. 7.30pm) and revealed that he won't put too much strain on his first-team stars as they look to build up match fitness ahead of the start of the league campaign:

"In the early games players will get 45 minutes each because in most cases we want them to train the next day so we don't want them too tired. I'm looking forward to the first friendly and I'm pleased that there's still a month until the first league game because there's still a lot of work to do.

"Anybody's preparation is to get a good start and ideally against Morecambe we want three points so we have to be as ready as we can."

One player who won't be involved in the pre-season campaign is midfielder Matt Bloomfield, who is still some distance away from first-team action due to his knee injury, but there was some good news for the 24-year-old this week as he put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, and Taylor was pleased to see 'Blooms' commit to the club:

"It's important for us because he's a very good player and professional who's done extremely well for this football club," he said. "He's been very unlucky but I'm sure that as soon as he's back in the team and playing well then there'll be a new deal for him."
