Blues trio Gavin Grant, Magno Silva Vieira and John Sutton told Wanderers World this week that they are relishing the prospect of working under ex-England coach Peter Taylor throughout the forthcoming season and added that they are all impressed by the new manager's plans for his new-look side.
World: Pre-season report
Grant and Vieira joined the club from Millwall and Crawley respectively this summer and were eager to show the new management team what they could do as they reported for the first day of pre-season training on Tuesday, and Grant was pleased to get started with his new team-mates:
"It's gone well," he said. "It wasn't quite as hard as I thought it would be I know it's going to get harder!"
Having worked with Taylor at Stevenage, the 24-year-old knows what to expect from the man with four promotions to his name during his management career so far, and Grant believes that the Blues could be in for a successful campaign this time around:
"He's a very good manager - he knows what he wants and how to get it, and promotion is definitely the aim this season," he added.
Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Vieira admitted that he had offers to move elsewhere in the summer but the lure of a deal at Adams Park was too strong to resist:
"I was supposed to sign for another club but when I found out Wycombe were interested it was an easy decision for me to make," he said. "I spoke to the manager and the ideas he's got, plus the way he sees me as a player, were really important to me."
But despite the five new faces at the Blues over the summer, there are still plenty of familiar ones around the dressing room, and striker John Sutton is looking to blossom under the new boss after the Wanderers missed out on promotion last season:
"I've enjoyed my break but you do miss your football," he said. "Obviously we were all disappointed with the Stockport game but it gives you that motivation for this year and it's a fresh start for me so hopefully we'll have a good season.
"The new manager's come in and told us how he wants to play and it sounds good," he added. "He's brought in some young players as well which has given us all a bit more energy so it'll be exciting."
