WORLD ARCHIVE: STARS FROM THE PAST

By Ross Jeavons

In a new feature on wwfc.com we trawl through the Wanderers World archive to bring you some classic footage from years gone by.

Over the years Wanderers fans have been lucky enough to witness some great players playing both for and against the Blues, some youthful talents ready to flourish and some ageing stars in the twilight of their careers.

This week we take a look at Dean Ashton, the prolific front man who made his England debut on Sunday night away to Trinidad & Tobago.

Of course Ashton was a product of the acclaimed acadamy of Crewe Alexandra, developing under the watchful eye of the legendary Dario Gradi.

Wycombe were unfortunate enough to be exposed to the now West Ham striker's talents back in 2003, in a 4-2 defeat at Gresty Road.

Not only did 'Deano' bag a brace against the Chairboys, he also played a key role in setting up the third goal of the night with some intricate play, that eventually allowed current Sheffield United forward Rob Hulse to slot home.

World subscribers can have a look at the match in question by clicking on the links below.

Don't forget you can sign up to Wanderers World for as little as £1 a week and gain access to over five years of archive footage. For more information just click here.
