Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has told wwfc.com that his players are doing everything in their power to finish in the top three as they look to close a seven point gap on the automatic promotion places in League Two.
Comments in today's Bucks Free Press newspaper suggested that the Blues should settle for a place in the play-offs and rest key players until the end of the regular league campaign, but Lambert said that everyone in the squad is focused on achieving automatic promotion:
"I've always said that we can finish in the top three so there's no way we're giving up now," he declared. "Anything can happen between now and the end of the season and it would be foolish to leave our best players out of the team at such a crucial stage. I have every faith in the future of our youngsters, but we've got six 'cup finals' coming up and this is a time for experience."
Several teams in the promotion hunt have been in inconsistent form as the pressure grows, with Darlington collecting just one win in five games and Hereford taking one point from six over the Easter weekend, and Lambert says his team are ready to take advantage if others continue to drop points.
"Every year at this time, there's one team that struggles and one that goes on a great run and we believe that we can be the team to break into the top three. All the teams around us have got difficult fixtures to come and they're sure to drop points. If we can keep winning, we won't be far away."
The Blues have no game this weekend due to Grimsby's involvement in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final, so promotion rivals Peterborough United are the next opponents for Paul Lambert's side on Saturday, 5th April, at Adams Park, k.o. 3.00pm. To buy tickets online for this match, click here.
