Wanderers have announced a change of date for their home game against League Two newcomers Morecambe. It will now be played on Friday, December 14th, k.o. 7.30 pm.

The switch will avoid a clash with London Wasps whose Heineken Cup tie against the French club Clermont Auvergne will take place at Adams Park on Saturday, December 15th, k.o. 5.30 pm.

Wasps tried to move their fixture to Sunday, December 16th, but this was ruled out by the rugby authorities because Sky TV has chosen to show the match live.

Morecambe have agreed to the switch and the Football League has given their approval. Blues boss Paul Lambert says he's "delighted" to play the game on Friday because it will give his players an extra day's rest ahead of the busy Christmas programme.

Wanderers also plan to make the game a "community evening" with special prices for families.

Managing director Steve Hayes told wwfc.com: "History shows that Saturday home games just before Christmas are not well supported. By switching to Friday night we hope to encourage more families to attend."

"They can come and watch us play and still fit in the Christmas shopping and the kids won't have to worry about being up early for school the next morning."

He added: "I appreciate that some people may not be happy about the switch and I would encourage them to contact me. However, the board believes that this is the best solution. We have canvassed the views of many supporters and the majority agree."

The Vere Suite on both Friday and Saturday evening will be hosting the Clubs annual Christmas Party to Party Nights therefore other bar provisions will be made available.
