BLUES SWOOP FOR HOT PROSPECT

Posted on: Fri 31 Aug 2007

Wanderers have captured one of the most exciting young prospects in the Championship after agreeing a season long loan deal for Plymouth Argyle teenager Reuben Reid.

Blues boss Paul Lambert made his move for Reid after seeing the 19-year-old play a starring role against Wycombe in last month's Carling Cup tie at Home Park. He described Reid as "fast, strong with quick feet and an eye for goal."

Lambert told wwfc.com: "Reuben really impressed us that night and all the boys were talking about him after the game. He played on the right of midfield against us, but his real position is up front. I know that Plymouth see him as a big prospect for the future and we're delighted to get him."

Reid has previous experience of League Two having played on loan for Rochdale and Torquay last season. He has also played in the Conference whilst on loan at Kidderminster Harriers and, of course, has appeared for Plymouth in the Championship and Carling Cup.

Born in Bristol, Reid went to the famous Millfield School where his sporting prowess at both football and cricket soon attracted attention. At first he seemed destined for a career in the summer game after playing for Gloucestershire's second X1, but he chose football after being offered trials at Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

He was then offered a place in Plymouth's youth academy and after starring for Argyle's youth and reserve teams, Reid went on to make his first team debut at the age of 17 on the final day of season 2005-06. He has since played a dozen times for Argyle's first team.

Said Lambert: "He'll give us something different. He's over six feet tall, powerfully built and has bags of pace." Reid will not figure for the Blues in their league two game with Chesterfield tomorrow. The youngster has been ill and has not trained at all this week.

The Blues boss was also quick to point out that Reid's arrival is not connected to Plymouth's attempts to sign Jermaine Easter. He told us: "Plymouth made a bid for Jermaine that was much higher than Swindon's offer, but we've turned that down and also said 'no' to an increased bid that they've just made.

Reid's loan move has got nothing to do with that situation and - as I've said all along - Jermaine has accepted the situation and I'm sure he'll be in the right frame of mind for the game at Chesterfield tomorrow."
