SAFE STANDING DAY FOR THE BEES
By Alan Parry
The growing campaign for safe standing at football grounds will be featured on national television when Wanderers open their terraces to rival fans for their next home game against Brentford.
The match, which kicks off at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, September 9th, is being screened live by Sky Sports and Wycombe have invited supporters from all over the country to turn up at Adams Park for a "safe standing day".
The club has also sent out invitations to the 145 Members of Parliament who signed a motion calling on the government to re-examine the case for safe standing at football grounds.
The Football Supporters Federation and the national Stand Up Sit Down campaign team are also giving their full backing and support to the safe standing day.
"I am a passionate believer in the right to stand at football" said Wycombe's managing director Steve Hayes. "I never sit in the directors' box when I watch Wycombe play away; I much prefer to stand behind the goal with the rest of our fans."
He added: "The board and supporters of Wycombe actively back the campaign for safe standing and we believe that every supporter should have the right to choose.
"As the Brentford game is live on Sky it provides the ideal platform to publicise the campaign for safe standing. We welcome supporters of any club to join Wycombe fans on the terrace behind the goal. We've also invited all the M.P.'s who support the campaign plus the chairmen of every club in the Premier League and the Football League. It's a perfect opportunity to publicly show their support."
Wycombe's safety officer Richard Stanford said: "We're encouraging supporters from all over the country to turn up in their club colours and watch the match from the home terrace. This obviously doesn't include Brentford fans who will have their own section at the other end of the ground due to segregation rules. We have spoken to the relevant police forces about our plans and they have no objections."
