HAYES BECOMES WASPS DIRECTOR
Press Release from London Wasps and Wycombe Wanderers
Steve Hayes, Managing Director of Wycombe Wanderers FC, has joined the board of London Wasps Holdings Ltd as a non-executive director. Steve has also invested the equivalent of approx 11.6% equity in LWH.
"My appointment signals the developing relationship between London Wasps and Wycombe Wanderers to energetically pursue the feasibility of building a new stadium in the High Wycombe area." commented Steve Hayes. "For some time I have had such a vision to support the ambitions our board has for Wycombe Wanderers FC. I am delighted that the successful ground-sharing relationship we have had with London Wasps, for the last five years, is now planned to evolve to a deeper long term partnership. This should have tremendous benefits for the community in the High Wycombe area, which deserves a 21st Century Sports Arena."
Said London Wasps Vice Chairman John O'Connell: "Over the last couple of years, London Wasps has been investigating many options in the South East of England for a permanent home for a club of our standing. Professional Club Rugby is one of the fastest growing major sports and London Wasps intends to ensure it keeps pace with such demand going forward.
"As current European Champions and having won 10 trophies in the last 10 years we are clearly going to soon outgrow the current capacity of Adams Park. We have been heartened by the support from the local community since we moved to Adams Park five seasons ago and a new Stadium with increased capacity, with Wycombe Wanderers FC, is our preferred option."
Wasps Chairman Chris Wright added: "I am delighted to welcome Steve to the board. His business acumen energy and drive will be a great asset and represents part of our drive to invigorate our management team, as evidenced also by the recent appointment of our new CEO, Tony Copsey."Mr Hayes concluded: "Wasps have a long way to go before our dream might become a reality, but my being on the board of the club will help to ensure the two clubs ambitions are aligned and complementary to the vision of a High Wycombe Community Stadium."
