THE JAMIE YOUNG SHOW
By Jamie Young
Hey everyone, welcome back to another edition of the Jamie Young show. First of all I hope everyone is enjoying Christmas whilst also enjoying the form of the team.
It's been a while since my last blog and as always there are plenty of things to write about, so let's kick it off!
First up - let's get it out of the way - the team have been doing brilliantly at the moment and there's a confident feel within the squad. It's great to be involved in that and it makes life easier when you turn up to training, so hopefully we will keep that going.
The first week of December saw us be the feature on 'The Championship' on ITV. I guess that's a good thing, as the added media attention shows just how well we have progressed so far.
By the way did anyone see me get my pants pulled down??? I thought I handled it well, but that's Scott Shearer for you…always trying to undress other blokes!!!!
From all angles though it was pretty funny and I seem to be that dude you turn to when you need to brighten your day up by doing silly things like that. John Mousinho found that out when he wore my jeans one day.
It was meant in good humour but I didn't see it that way…my excuse was that I didn't know him, or maybe that I knew he had one on me. Sadly for 'Moosy', I think I have a few up on him.
He's dared me to wear them again and thinks I won't, but we all know I will. So I will wait and see what he comes up with - Moosy if you're reading this, I'll be ready for you son!!!!!
This is the first chance I've had to speak about our bizarre midweek game against Macclesfield back in October, which eventually got called off because of snow. This is a far cry from where I come from and as I talked to my dad in Australia that night, he told me it was 30 degrees.
It begs the question why am I here in the first place after hearing that? For me Christmas time is a time of warmth and barbeques, not snow fights and roasts.
Luckily for me though my brother is a chef, so whipping up something for Christmas day shouldn't be a problem…just don't tell Damien Doyle as he's always trying to monitor my fat percentage - Damo those tests are rubbish son!
Recently, one of my favourite bands - Slipknot - came to the UK supported by another of my favourites, Machine Head. This was something I could not miss and luckily I was able to catch one of their shows.
Having being completely obsessed with Slipknot since I was about 14, I was a bit nervous of what to expect. I've read all the stories in papers and magazine articles and I've heard all the reasons from my friends as to why they're not a worthy rock band, but this didn't deter me.
In fact it only made me want to see them more and finally I got the chance after nine years of waiting.
So I arrived at the Hammersmith Apollo just in time for Machine Head to come on and having seen them previously, I knew they were more than just a supporting act. For me they are totally different to Slipknot, but just as awesome at the same time.
They didn't disappoint - with their ferocious guitar riffs and resounding double kick base drums - which is everything that has made them famous. In between, Rob Flynn their lead singer/guitarist, was taunting the crowd by throwing JD and Coke into their midst.
These antics went down well with the crowd, as I suspect they were completely and utterly crazy. As for myself, I felt ready for something special and when they came on and played their first song, it was easy to see why they are so good.
It's like you get caught up in the moment and you can't help but accept it and go along for the ride. Seeing 5,000 people all head bang in time is a pretty intimidating thing, but that didn't stop me joining in.
Before I knew it, Machine Head had finished their set and I soon remembered that we weren't there to see a Machine Head concert, but in fact there was still a headliner to come in Slipknot.
Like I said before, I had no idea what it was going to be like. People in the past have put them into the "nu-metal" genre, saying they are all about fashion rather than function.
I just want to say that whoever thought that up clearly had no idea what they were talking about. To say this band are similar to Korn or Limp Bizkit is insane!!!!
I can honestly say that Slipknot are the most intense heavy metal band out there, and the show they played completely blew everyone away. All I can remember was been thrown about 10 metres when the first song came on.
The two percussionists had hydraulic lifts where the DJ was doing chin-ups and while all of this was going on, one of the percussionists was beating a keg with a baseball bat. The two guitarists were extremely creative and at one point, I thought their heads were going to fall off, whilst the drummer started playing vertically in the air.
There were so many little crazy things going on and I can see why Slipknot are so infectious. To say it was an awakening experience would be an understatement.
I now look at Slipknot the way little kids look at footballers. This is for various reasons but mainly because you won't find anything else like them out there.
People like Pink or Britney Spears seem to spring up everywhere, whereas Slipknot are unique. All in all it was a top night, one to remember and hopefully I'll get to see them again.
As I'm sure you're all aware, we are in Christmas season. For me - as I'm sure you know - I was born in Australia, and Christmas used to be the hottest time of the year for me.
For the past eight years it's been cold - something that's hard to come to terms with - but at least it's something to talk about with my other Aussie friends that are over here. Christmas for me is about spending time with family and appreciating what you have in your life.
Unfortunately I won't be spending it with all my family, but at least I'll have my chef brother to crack something up for me.
I'd just like to say - to every Wycombe Wanderers supporter out there - Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thanks for the support in 2008 and it's been greatly appreciated by myself and the team.
Let's all make 2009 even better. As this is the last edition before the New Year, I hope everyone out there has a safe and happy holidays and hopefully we'll see you down at Adams park in 2009. As always send your questions into us at media@wwfc.com and get involved. Until next year, keep it real!
Youngy.
