THE JAMIE YOUNG SHOW
By Jamie Young
Hey everybody! Welcome back to the Jamie Young Show. It's great to be back for another edition and as always there are plenty of things to talk about.
The team has had to battle it out against some of the league's tougher opponents of late and I can also provide an injury update to see how some of our sidelined stars are coming along. So lets get started…
Well firstly lets talk about team. The last couple of weeks have seen us play some of the better teams in the league, in the form of Stockport County, Peterborough and MK Dons. These were all very hard games in their own right but to have them in the space of a few weeks was definitely going to test our nerves and steel.
The one thing I have found comforting about these games is that I know that we play better against the top-sides. Why you might ask? Well I think this is because we are a passing team. A lot of sides in our league are very physical and direct; this usually means they play a long ball more often then not. It's easy to get drawn into this, as it can be effective if played well. On a defensive note though a lot of teams know because we can pass the ball well, they will stick two banks of four in front of us and this makes it very hard to break down. This also leaves us open 'on the break' - as we have found a few times while chasing a winner.
The better sides though are similar to us in the way they play the ball and this makes them a little bit more open, because they too want to score goals. This is why I think we have a great chance at beating top teams because in my opinion, there isn't another side in the league who can play better than us or who can retain possession in the same manner.
Anyway back to the results. I've always felt we can get some great results against the better teams and to be brutally honest I think of late it could have been even better. I'm not saying we didn't perform well enough, because I think we have been great. However I think we've also been unlucky. A deflected goal and a foul on our player against Peterborough saw us go from 1-0 up to 2-1 down.
Mk Dons saw us having to play against the odds in many ways. I don't want to say too much but I know a few people weren't happy with the performance of the referee. The linesman has made the excuse of saying he couldn't' keep up with play because one of the substitutes was in the way. I mean come on! Tommy Doherty got pushed in the face and then got booked, how does that happen?! That summed our day and I think it's frustrating from a player's point of view when your trying to win a game and it's affected by something you can't control.
This was the case on Saturday. I've had to bite my tongue with a lot of this and I can't say everything I'm thinking, but with all this in mind though I'd just like to say to the lads that they've been brilliant, and surely the steel that they show every game must spur them on for the rest of the season.
On a brighter note though the media team came down to the training ground the other day (for some ungodly reason) to have a penalty shoot-out against some of the first team. Leon Knight and I stepped up to the challenge. Their display raised a few eyebrows with 'Knighty' and myself because when we see people who are not footballers, trying to be footballers - we feel compelled to put them in their places. This was certainly the case in this situation as they are in the media team and as such they have an official opinion on everything! So with this all in mind I'm glad to say that we won, although I'm not in anyway surprised. (haha unlucky guys!) It was all taken in great humor and to be fair, the guys in the media team are great people so it wasn't hard taking all the glory from them. (Editor's note: Careful Jamie, or this blog could be your last).
Anyway lets have an update of some of the injured players. Scott Shearer has resumed training and that's great to see, as he's a very bubbly character and having him out of the treatment room is always fun. Will Antwi has been injured for quite sometime but is making good progress in his bid to get fit. It's been well documented that he's had it tough with injuries but he's making decent progress. He's played in a few reserve games of late and has looked quite good. He's naturally a fit person so it's all about getting that timing right and he has slotted in like he had never left the game. You can never tell with the injury he has, but fingers crossed he's over the worst of it.
Matt Bloomfield is due an operation soon and he's been working hard in the gym to make sure he's ready for it. In my opinion he's taken the injury very well and I guess this shows how bubbly he is as a person. I will say though that he did come to the game on Saturday against MK Dons and we were quick to get into him about this…I guess this is just our humour.
Well the season is finally creeping up on us and there are not many games to go. It's gone extremely quickly but with only a handful of games left I can't but feel like there's still a huge mountain to climb. This year is definitely different from last year and I think you can all agree that we can really go out there and do something.
I remember a few months ago when we were beaten 6-0 by Stockport there was a feeling around the club that we were in big trouble. Some people might say it's amazing how far things have come since then, but not to me. In my opinion there's always been great potential in our side and I think that's really coming out. We have a big squad and very few injuries. So I think if you're going to put some money down, it should be on us.
Once again I urge every Wycombe fan out there to keep supporting the club. Your backing might just help to spur us on to the end, which I will say is now a reality. We are in a position to do something and surely that is a great feeling for any supporter. So until next time KEEP BACKING THE BOYS and…
Keep it real!
