THE JAMIE YOUNG SHOW

By Jamie Young

Hey welcome once again to the 'Jamie Young Show'.

First of all I'd like to welcome back all the fans, I took a break for a week as I was filling in the "In the Stocks" column for Sam Stockley in our home programme. As fun as that was I'm glad to be back in my own environment. The last couple of weeks has seen us get some encouraging results but before I get into that, lets do the question thing...

You read all sorts in the papers about footballers and their partying antics, do you have to be extra careful if you go out for the night? How strict is the manager on allowing players to go for a party? - Mark, London

This is definitely a tricky subject. I don't think there's a problem going out so long as you don't do anything stupid. On a negative side it has got to the point where people will recognise you and try to stir you up. I hate things like that, you don't see me going to the next guy trying to get a fight with him because of who he is. Unfortunately that is life there are idiots out there who have nothing more special in their lives then being an ass.

Secondly, in terms of the manager I don't think he is that strict on us. He says as long as we don't get into trouble then there shouldn't be a problem. Also the timing of going out is crucial. It would be a big let down if you go out a night before a game to yourself but more importantly the team so there has to be a level of maturity being used when you think of going out. Personally I like to think I'm a human being as well so going out is natural but as long as I'm responsible there is no harm in socialising.

This season we have already picked up 14 clean sheets, just five off the record set by Martin O'Neill's side in 1994. How does that feel? - David, Slough

That's a great stat! I didn't know this but being part of the defence I know that is something to be proud of.I do think our defence is awesome and you can see it in the results. Not many teams have scored against us through open play, it's been more through set plays, namely penalties. I think we're hard to break down because we're organised very well. We have players in there who have played at a higher level and also there hasn't been much changes in there, which helps in understanding each other while playing.

We seem to have had quite a few penalties been given against us this season. Frankie's saved a couple and nearly saved the one at Bury, but how do you rate yourself in saving them? And would you step up to take one in a shoot-out, or be 11th on the list? - Gra

I would have no problem in thinking I could save a penalty. As a goalkeeper the pressure is off so you feel free to try to just go out there and save it. In terms of taking one I would put my hand up if the chance came. I don't think I'd be allowed though, as apparently goalkeepers don't know how to take set piece kicks! Need I remind anyone that we do goal kicks and that we therefore have to take more set piece kicks than anyone else in the side! I don't know why more goalkeepers don't take them because half of goalkeeping training is shooting in itself.

Ok as you know I filled in for Stocks' column in the last home game. I thought it was quite humorous as a lot of the banter I gave out was pointed at Sam. As many of us know he was quick to justify my claims but personally I couldn't have cared less as I was just trying to be funny. A lot of the guys have been saying to me "Youngy why don't you hammer him more often on your blog? He's always hammering you in his."

For me though this column is not about trying to get into the guys so much it's more of an insight of how things are here and a way to show the fans this. Hopefully the fans can relate to this and actually realise there is a personality outside of the player they see on the pitch and that things aren't always what they seem. Some people I talk to say such and such never gives his best and I think to myself because I know him, I know he is. People just convey these qualities in different ways.

You have Lenny who shouts at people trying to get more from them and that can be seen as passion. Then you have Woody who is quiet but anyone who knows anything about football can tell he will stick his head in if it needs to be done. People are different and they will play the game in their own ways.So yes even though I like to show some funny sides to the team it's not all about that.Further more imagine if I talked about Sam every time it would be boring, just like his column! Moving on…

Most recently England has announced the successor to Steve McClaren in the form of Fabio Capello. Many people have varied views in which this was a good decision or not. The fact remains that wherever he has managed, he's been a success. So I don't know why some people are not taking to him.

Youngy was impressed by Guus

English people are very passionate and that's cool with me because so are Aussies, but when it comes to winning we don't care who we get. We had Terry Venables at one point and in terms of winning he DID suck (though I was a bit too young to remember) but most recently we had Guus Hiddink, who did absolutely wonders for us. Do we think he's rubbish because of where he comes from?

No. We think he's good enough to be Australian because of the job he did. It was amazing and I can say first hand that you'd rather someone who can do what is needed no matter where he comes from. So I say good luck to Fabio Capello. I hope he does a good job just like he's always done. All the best mate, because it's not long before the rubbish newspapers find out how much sugar you have in your espressos and other stupid things like that!

This week saw our reserves play Watford. This was surely going to be a test of us, but in the end we came out winners with a 2-1 victory. More personally for me it gave me a chance to catch up with an old coach in the name of Dick Bate.

Dick Bate coached Jamie in his England days

Dick was my England coach through many age groups and it was great to say 'hello' to him and catch up. I've always kept in contact with him as he's a bit of a legend in the game and it's nice to talk to someone who has worked with players of the highest calibre. I learnt a lot from the man and I have massive respect for him, so it was even better to get a win over his side which I'm sure I will tell him all about for weeks to come!

Finally I was at Bloomsie's house the other day and we played some 'Pro Evo'. He ended up beating me quite comprehensively. He's been bugging me forever to mention it, so 'Bloomsie' this is for you! I got served up bossy. If there is anyone else who fancy's trying to beat me at Pro Evo, please send your gamer tag in here and I'll be sure as to give you the biggest whooping of your life!

Thanks once again for tuning into the Jamie Young Show. As always I'll be here next week. Also thanks again for the questions keep them coming - send them to the media lads here. Also next week there will be a competition in which the winner will win a free pair of gloves signed by yours truly, so until then have a good one and back the boys! Keep it Real.
