THE JAMIE YOUNG SHOW
Hey everybody! Welcome back to the Jamie Young show. The place where you can get all the inside info on Wycombe Wanderers and mayhem of its players. Of course I'll be your host again and hopefully we can have a laugh along the way! Ok lets get it on...
First up: questions from last week.
Gra - What's your opinion of Frank Fielding? There's plenty of people singing his praises at the moment so I'd like to know how a fellow 'keeper rates him and also what is Laurence Batty's opinion of him? Good luck with your reserve game next week.
Frankie is a great lad. I get on pretty well with him and we have great banter in training together. Usually it's me calling him Paddy Kenny...hehe can you see the resemblance? On a serious note though Frankie is a technically decent keeper which doesn't surprise me since he has come from Blackburn. As for Laurence I can't really comment but I'm sure his opinion wouldn't differ too much from mine.

Tim - Jamie, obviously you are a man who knows what he likes when it comes to music, do you ever get a choice of what goes in the stereo on a match day? If not , who does?
Haha yes this is a major issue for me! I can't say I've ever been asked what to put on because the lads know what I like so I have to listen to the likes of Fear Factory, Slipknot and Tool on my Mp3 player. Usually Leon Johnson has some tunes banging out and I think Oakesy makes CDs up too but listening to the rubbish they have is like banging my head on a wall! I'm trying to psyche myself up for a game, not pretend I'm in a club.
Deano - What team did you support as a kid?
A lot of people ask me this and the thing I find over here is that everyone has their team that they support. Even people who don't care about football have one. But in Australia you get a more broad following, it's not just England. So with this in mind I support Bayern Munich (yes gaffer that's right!).
People look at me like I have a disease when I say this and it even goes to the point where the lads try and say that I'm making it up like I don't actually support them, namely Will Antwi. It's been well documented that Will loves an opinion on anything which is fine by me because I'm like that too, but in this case: Will - have a glass of shut the hell up!

Well enough of the questions, lets crack on...
Ok let's get it out of the way first: the team. Personally I think we've had a great time of late. We're back in the mix again and it's been nothing short of hard work but credit due to the lads, once again they've proved people wrong. Most recently though we've had a loss and a draw. In the home game against Rochdale, I'd have to be honest and say that I don't think that we were all that good.
Keep in mind our high standards of course because this is what I'm comparing ourselves to every time we play and it looked like if we got a draw out of that game it would have been a decent one. I guess it wasn't our day and I don't want go into why but every team has a day like this and this is what supporters need to understand. Every pass will not go how you want it to, every shot may never always go on target but through the course of the season if we keep trying to do the right things our quality will shine through.
So after having this defeat we needed to show if we could bounce back again and in the form of Rotherham away, this is quite a feat! Obviously we got a draw and as I'm told it was a decent one so credit to the guys once again by showing their resilience once again. Moving on...
Being involved in a football club, people are always asking my opinion on things like "what's it like?" and "what teams do you support?". This time I was asked "Jamie, what do you think of Paul Lambert?" Also when I first started this column I said I would talk about him and all the lads were like "yeah right" so I better put my money where my mouth is.
First of all he is known as "The Gaffer" or "Boss". I find this odd coming from Australia because we don't really say things like that in football, but we're a much newer nation with more modern customs I guess. So anyway there are two sides to me when I think about the gaffer. I knew about him as a kid growing up in Australia and obviously what he has done in the game. So with this all in mind it's awesome because you're working with someone who has achieved top things in football - things that where I come from are a world away from being a reality.

I didn't know that he was in the team at the time but I remember when Dortmund won the Champions League...I was in grade 7 at school! Enough said!
Then there is the other side. The side that forgets that I'm a fan of football and says that I'm a professional too. So as quickly as I have thought about all those things I forget them and remember that I have to work for him and show what I am capable as a footballer. As always there is plenty of banter in football and having banter with the manager can often lead to sticky situations. So I tend to not enter such things. On my side I try to stay as professional as possible and try to let the football do the talking.
That's not to say that I wouldn't talk to the manager because one of the best things I like about him is that he's a quite approachable person. When I was at Reading I had Alan Pardew who I felt was very vocal and you knew if he talked to you then you were in his mind, which was a good thing because, as the saying goes, "out of sight out of mind". Then we had Steve Coppell who is the opposite. He'd sit back and just watch things, keeping his opinions to himself and this made me feel like you never knew where you stood.

The Gaffer is more like Alan Pardew and for me I find I'm more receptive to this style. It makes me feel like if I ever have a problem I can go discuss it with him. It usually ends in him not believing that I'm half Scottish. Over here I'm considered to be Australian but in Australia I'm considered to be different as well because of my heritage so what am I supposed to do?!
Also in general the coaches love to say "It never happened in my day". That is a common phrase and it cracks me up because you know if definitely did. I think coaches in general just love to hammer the players; I don't know why but maybe it's a Bristish thing. It seems to happen everywhere you go in football. So for me it goes in one ear and out the other.
People ask me "Jamie, why do you say you keep it real What does it mean?" This is so funny I think. To me I find over here people are more interested in what others think. I don't know why, I just think there is more of a social expectancy. Especially with footballers, we're always paying people out for being different, whether it be for their clothes or the music they listen to. You know, things like that.
Yes, I have being looking in the programmes and in every Q&A I'm getting hammered for my taste in music and my fashion sense. For me I think everyone in our team are too alike like that. So when I say "keep it real", I mean "just be yourself". Don't worry what people think, be who you are and be happy with that.
I mean I don't know why I get battered so much. Come on guys, I mean seriously. You've got Oakesy who just has to look at himself in the mirror and fix his hair, well here's something for ya buddy. You aren't that good looking! You have Stocks who comes in like he thinks he's on a catwalk and he gets his hair chemically straightened. I mean, dude! Most recently though we've had Knighty come in who I swear looked like he was a member of British Gas... and they say I have no fashion sense!

I will never win on this subject unfortunately, although it's amusing so I just accept people for who they are and laugh on the inside apart from when I write in this column! So yeah when I say "Keep it real man" I'm saying be who you are and do your thing.
Finally last week I touched on Xbox and who plays on Xbox Live in our team, so now I want to know who of the fans out there play Xbox Live too. If you're someone who plays Halo3, Call of Duty 4 and Pro Evo send your gamer tags in to the guys and I'll add you and we can see if you have what it takes to beat the master that is Jamie Young, because I'm the man on Xbox Live!
Ok, thanks so much for tuning in again for this week's edition of the Jamie Young Show. I hope to see you all at our next game in full voice behind the team! Back the boys! It's been a pleasure...it's been all yours!
Keep it real!
Jamie
