THE JAMIE YOUNG BLOG
By Jamie Young
Hey everyone! Welcome back to The Jamie Young Blog.
Firstly I would like to wish everyone out there a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. As always this is a special time and I hope everyone got to enjoy it in one shape or form. So let's get this thing going again with some questions that were sent in from last week:
From gvp444:
In the run up to games that you know you will be playing in do you ever look into the strikers that you will be up against and think "I'm going to have a tough day today"? Continuing on from this are there any forwards/players in this division that you would love to be on our side?
I do have a glimpse of the strikers we are playing for numerous reasons. One is because they have different strengths and I can just be ready for them. Mostly I know the people we are playing against from the past so I don't have to think about it too much. I do like to know who I'm up against but I certainly don't place much emphasis on this because I'm more worried about my own game.
From Matthew Ing:
Do you ever play Football Manager on the PC, and do you think the ratings are real to life? For example, I feel stats for people like Scott McGleish are way off the mark. Do you think your individual value in the game is realistic to your real life value as a player (10K)?
I think these games are more fictional than anything but are great entertainment. As for Scott McGleish I couldn't comment as I haven't seen his stats and as for me I'm surprised I'm worth 10K! That just shows you they are fictional because I thought my only value is on a free transfer!

A lot of people have been asking me "Jamie, what are you doing for Christmas?". It's a weird question for me because usually I could rattle off what I did every other year when I was back home in Oz and say "I'm seeing the family - woohooo...next question?" But since I am over here I have to ask myself the same question so I'm looking like a lost kid finding anyone who would take me in like I'm homeless or something!
I really do like Christmas over here. Don't get me wrong - I'd take a water fight in Oz over a snowball fight over here any day, but because of the cold it just feels so cosy having people with you that are important to you in the festive period.
Also, when you're a footballer it's hard to really enjoy it all because in the back of your mind you know you have a game the next day and you're preparing yourself for it. And any other fat man out there such as myself will know that you want to pig out but you have to be careful as there is the game the next day.
So back to what I did. For the last couple of years I have been doing dinner on a Christmas Eve because of the games and this year was no different. I seem to mention Marcus Hahnemann on here every week and yet again I have to do so because I went to his house for Christmas Eve dinner with his family.
It makes sense for us as you can enjoy yourself and still have plenty of time to make sure you're ready for the game. So off I went over to his house and had a great time. I find I get on well with Marcus because we have a lot in common: we're both goalies, we like heavy metal music, we love Xbox and we're both foreign. I've known him since I was 17 and he's always helped me out, and now I just call him sometimes to bug him about anything!
Next up, Christmas Day. We had training at 9.30 but I didn't mind one bit because I live here without all of my family bar my brother. I've being doing it since I was 15 and so we understand that this is how things are and you just accept it for what is. My brother Hamish is a chef so he made probably the best Christmas meal ever (but don't tell Terry Evans)! It was awesome but I was responsible and didn't push the boat out too far...yeah right!

To me, Christmas time is all about spending it with people who are important to you. It can be friends but mostly family. I have mentioned that I don't live with mine, bar my brother, so it can be difficult. As I'm half Scottish I'm always telling the Scottish lads about how I'm more Scottish than they are for a joke.
The thing is I haven't really seen them much as my other side which is Sri Lankan and they naturally now live in Australia, hence why I have seen them more than my Scottish side. This got me to thinking that I should visit my Scottish relatives, and seeing as I am injured at the moment, I thought I'd visit them, so a week before Christmas I decided to see them.
Scotland is so different to England but I'd have to say that's it one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Edinburgh - where my Dad is from - is my favourite city and I'm glad I could visit it again. It was amazing seeing where my father grew up and I felt like I could relate to him more because of it.
So once I had arrived there my cousin Colin had organised tickets to the Celtic vs. Hibernian game, as he is a Hibs supporter. So off I went to Parkhead, one of the most famous grounds, and I was so stoked to see the famous Celtic supporters in action. They did disappoint though as Hibs turned out a 1-1 draw but nonetheless the experience was unforgettable and being there was truly an awesome experience.

One of the most strange things happened and it was something you would never find in Australia. We were wearing Hibs scarves in a bar in Glasgow before the game and the doormen said not to wear them as it could lead to trouble. I guess it shows just how passionate people over here about football and seeing as I come from Australia I guess I'll never truly understand that one, but hey, I'm not about to disagree and get my head beaten in so I took it off.
Lastly, I should mention the team, right? Oh yeah, I play football! I forgot that! Well it was not long ago that I was talking about losing 6-0 and how we should have a bit of faith, etc. Four games later and four wins later the story couldn't have changed more. This is awesome how we have responded and I'm so glad that we are getting the desired results.
I've always thought that you can judge people in adversity and I think we have shown our qualities. I'm so glad for the manager and the lads and everyone else that is involved because it's so poor to be booed and I don't like it because you give everything and it just seems like it's never good enough, so to get these results makes it even more sweet so GOOD ON YOU GUYS!
Of course the season is far from finished but hopefully these results will continue and I'm sure we'll do our best to make sure this will happen.
So that's it for another week. One last thing before I go: I think the name of "The Jamie Young Blog" seems really dull and I've thought about it for a while and I can't think of anything either as I'm about as exciting as a dead cockroach. So with this in mind I want to put it to you, the fans. Email your thoughts to Matt (matt.cecil@wwfc.com) as to what it should be and the winner shall get a free pair of gloves signed by yours truly. Make them as funny as you can and hopefully you'll be the winner. Ok, I'm outta here. Keep it real and take care!
Jamie.
