FORMER BLUES SWING INTO ACTION

Posted on: Wed 24 Jun 2009

Wycombe Wanderers Ex-Players Association officially kicked off back in March 2009 with a gala day at the club's League Two fixture against Chesterfield.

The launch saw over 130 former players return to Adams Park. A parade featuring 17 of the surviving players to have made over 300 appearances for the club was enthusiastically received by current fans who also took the opportunity to meet their heroes in the Vere Suite afterwards - something that is to become a regular match-day feature next season.

Ex-players, from the 1930s to the current day, talked long into the night. Many signed up on the spot for privileges that include free guest tickets for games and priority places for a several planned events including dinners and a series of sporting get-togethers.Membership numbers are now approaching a hundred.

The next date on the Association's agenda is a golf day on August 13 at the Richings Park Golf course near Colnbrook (www.richingspark.co.uk). The event will be for members only with nearly 40 already down to play and others signed to attend the post-game dinner.

Following that is our main autumn event, the inaugural dinner scheduled for Adams Park on November 12. This is expected to attract many former Wanderers players from the club's amateur and professional days. It is hoped that this event will become an annual date on the Association's calendar.
