COMMUNITY TIME AT ADAMS PARK
By Callum Medcraft
On top of running 65 after school clubs a week, the WWFC community trust has been busy in the wings developing new incentives to cater for all the family.
Trust leader Dave Evans and his team have been developing a brand new education program entitled 'Family Learning'. Family learning is being partnered up by both the Learn Centre and the WWFC community trust with the aim of implementation by June 2009.
Family learning will offer parents the opportunity to gain an FA Level 1 coaching qualification as well as a certified IT qualification. In conjunction with this the children gain all the benefits of exercise during the coaching sessions on top of numeric and literal development via in-house tutoring.
The activities have been developed to help families spend more time together and widen their skills within a communal atmosphere. Community manager Dave Evans was quick to acknowledge the importance of family learning. "We are definitely looking to bring families closer together and expand their skills in the same environment. Learning together makes things much more convenient but most importantly it helps build strong family relationships".
WWFC believes sport and football in particular to be the ideal vehicle for engaging children who struggle with confidence in the class room. By engaging students through a subject that they enjoy and feel comfy with, the community trust intends to improve children's numerical and literal skills.

The 'Double Club' will be delivered via two 45 minute sessions by Wanderers representatives within schools. 45 minutes will be devoted to coaching and physical activities while the second half will be aimed at developing numeral and literal skills in the classroom environment.
"If you look at how successful our learn centre scheme has been with improving children's reading and writing it was obvious we needed to start going into schools and carrying on the good work. By asking students to write match reports or work out goal differences you are more likely to get them learning" stated Dave Evans.
All in all it seems the wanderers' team have a busy few months ahead of them as they look to bring new innovative services into our community.
