ONE STEP FROM WEMBLEY
Posted on: Tue 24 Mar 2009
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand and Aaron Lennon have already strutted their stuff at the home of English football this season, battling it out for silverware at the world's most famous stadium.
Now some local kids could be following in their footsteps, as Buckinghamshire's own St. Joseph's School find themselves just one step away from playing at Wembley stadium.
The once in a lifetime opportunity comes after the Gerrards Cross based side triumphed in the 'Wycombe Wanderers Community Cup', which brought together 80 teams from local schools in a quest to find the most talented bunch in the county.
St Joseph's came out on top in the South Buckinghamshire section, sending them into a final show off with the winners of the High Wycombe sector, Spinfield, and the champions of Maidenhead, Windsor and Henley - Trevelyan Primary.

St Joseph's in action |
The regional final itself took place at the training ground of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club, as St Joseph's narrowly edged their rivals on goal difference, with each side winning once and losing once in a round robin format.
The boys will now move on to the next stage, as they represent Wycombe Wanderers in taking on other clubs from the south of League Two, including schools from Brentford, Gillingham and Bournemouth.
Should the promising youngsters pull through that phase, set to take place at the home of Luton F.C, they will progress to the national final at Wembley Stadium - to be played prior to the League Two Playoff Final.
Both St. Joseph's and Spinfield Schools will be on show at Adams Park this afternoon, as they are paraded on the pitch ahead of the crunch clash with Shrewsbury Town.
To get your tickets for the 12.15 Saturday game with the Shrews call the Adams Park Ticket Office on 01494 441118.
