Wycombe Wanderers' Managing Director Steve Hayes officially opened Buckinghamshire's only state of the art 'Learn Centre' at Adams Park on Wednesday evening.

Mr.Hayes was alongside the Mayor of Wycombe, Councillor Paul Lambourne, as 'The Matrix' Centre was declared open, with the initative aiming to use the sporting environment of Adams Park to motivate disengaged children.

The launch started at 6pm in the Woodlands Suite at Adams Park where a number of influential figures in setting up the Centre delivered speeches, including one from Wycombe Wanderers' Community Scheme Manager Dave Evans, before the invitees watched a DVD regarding 'The Matrix'.

Guests were then invited on a tour around the Learn Centre before the evening was closed by Steve Edgar from School Improvements.

The scheme is aimed to improve skills of 9-14 year olds and not only is the Centre the only one of its kind in Buckinghamshire but one of a few that is now in operation outside the top flight of football.

'The Matrix' is fully equipped with state of the art computers and technology and is furnished with the famous Wycombe Wanderers theme.

Julie Sadler, School Improvement Officer for Bucks County Council said: "We've had fantastic support for the Centre, most notably from the Extended services, children and families, Matrix and Network Rail are looking forward to making a real difference to young people. The room at Wycombe Wanderers is really inspiring."

Dave Evans said: "We have a problem with integration in the local community, perhaps it is difficult for the Asian community to integrate properly at times or for disengaged children to find their way back to proper education."
