Wycombe were proud to host a "Show Racism The Red Card" event this week, inviting local school children to lend their support to the initiative.

Over 150 people packed into the Vere Suite for the showcase, which looked to teach the importance of understanding and tolerance in football - and society.

Ged Grebby and Gary Bennett (the first ever black captain in British football) represented SRTRC, with representatives from Wycombe District and Buckinghamshire County Council also present.

Kids got to watch a DVD on the subject featuring interviews with Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole, before they took part in a question and answer session - with a Wycombe Wanderers shirt on offer for the best query.

"The Red card event highlighted to the children in the local primary schools the effect that racist comments or actions can have on other people," said Wycombe's Head of Football in the Community, Dave Evans.

"Within the community we work with people and children from different cultures and countries, therefore by educating people about the positive effects that understanding other peoples beliefs and religions can have we can hopefully educate and enhance peoples bahaviour towards racism."

The visitors were delighted to see Sergio Torres and Will Antwi, who came to take part in a Q & A session on discrimination before signing posters and giving out prizes.

"Show Racism the Red Card are delighted to get the new season underway with such a well supported event. Due to the great support we have received from Wycombe Wanderers FC and our campaign sponsors," said Project Coordinator Ged Grebby.

"We have been able to print thousands of Wycombe Wanderers FC anti-racism posters for this season, for free distribution. We aim to harness the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism throughout society - people like Will and Sergio can be anti-racist role models."
