BLUES EDGE BORO - CLOCKWATCH

Posted on: Sat 26 Jul 2008

By Ross Jeavons

Second Half Team: Young, Turley, Johnson, Williamson, Crooks, Grant, Doherty, Rice, Ashton, McGleish, Zebroski

FULL TIME: The Blues are back on track after an impressive second half performance. Keep it wwfc.com for a full match report and the thoughts of manager Peter Taylor.

89 mins: Scott McGleish limps off, it looks worryingly like a hamstring trouble. Noone has come on to replace him, looks like the Wanderers will see this one out with ten men.

82 mins: Boro are pressing forward in search of an equaliser, though the Blues' defence is holding strong. Craig Westcarr balloons the ball over the stand from distance.

76 mins: The Wanderers make two changes. Leon Crooks makes way for Calum Botham, who makes his senior debut. Nathan Ashton switches to left back.

71 mins: It looks like the Blues are trying to close out this game, they are starting to sit back in midfield.

63 mins: Lovely interchange between McGleish and Gavin Grant sent last season's top scorer through, though his chip was just just over the bar.

62 mins: For once the home side have struggled to get into the game in the past 15 minutes, Morison comes closest to bothering the Blues back four - chipping a weak effort into the arms of Youngy.

57 mins: GOAL! The Wanderers are ahead. Gavin Grant slots through Robbie Rice who shows some lovely trickery inside the area before driving low towards goal. Bayes saves well but has no chance as McGleish canes in the rebound.

49 mins: GOAL! The Blues have got back into the game out of nothing. Chris Zebroski dashes onto a through ball from Rob Rice before calmly rounding Bayes and slotting home. Lets hope this spurs the boys on.

48 mins: Thomas has been outstanding for Boro, he shows pace once more on the right hand side before lashing the ball over the bar from just outside the area.

46 mins: Wycombe make ten changes at the break. First year pro Jamie Turley is handed his first ever start at right back, whilst new signing Nathan Ashton makes his debut on the left wing after signing from Fulham earlier today.

HALF TIME

44 mins: That's the best chance of the game for the Wanderers. Mousinho powers his way down the right hand side and into the six yard box, but is denied by a good low stop from Ashley Bayes.

38 mins: Stevenage come close to a second yet again. The ball is worked well around the box before Morrison knocks the ball back to Thomas. He lashes in a strong shot, but Shearer is again the hero saving with his legs.

37 mins: A half chance for the Chairboys once more. Mousinho curls in a free-kikc that captain Dave McCracken heads over the bar.

33 mins: Astonishing from the Blues, they are almost caught out again by Morison's long throw. It's Thomas again who nips through unmarked, but thankfully cracks his half volley into the side-netting.

29 mins: Giant Stevenage sub Luke Oliver has began to warm up infront of us, the ex-Wycombe youth teamer could well feature against his old club today.

28 mins: The Blues just can't get into this game, Boro again burst forward - the lively Thomas whipping in a cross that Martin just heads over the bar.

25 mins: WIll Antwi almost finds the net, but at the wrong end. He slices a clearance behind him but is lucky enough to see Shearer again save the day low to his right.

23 mins: Stevenage have been impressive and they come close to doubling their lead once more. Daryl McMahon fizzes in a free-kick from 25 yards after a foul by Will Antwi. He is only denied by smart save from Scott Shearer.

19 mins: The game has settled down somewhat now after a frantic opening. Mitchell Cole drifts the ball over Shearer's bar from distance.

12 mins: Wycombe come close, working the ball out well to John Mousinho who sends in a teasing cross to Vieira. The Brazilian can only flick his header over Bayes' bar though.

10 mins: Boro are looking very bright and almost had a second, Thomas again ghosting past the back four and only denied by a good saving challenge from Craig Woodman.

7 mins: The Blues are one goal down, the back four went to sleep from Steve Morison's long throw allowing Anthony Thomas to dash through and and slot cooly past Shearer.

5 min: First vague chance for either side, ball worked across by Ronnie Henry and sliced over the bar by John Martin from just outside the area. It was always a difficult one, on the rise as he struck it on the volley.

1 min: As expected Lewwis Spence is playing on just left of Gary Holt with John Mousinho on the opposite side. The back four is made up of Craig Woodman, David McCracken, Will Antwi and Leon Crooks with Scott Shearer inbetween the sticks.
